Math Activity #9 Cross the Decade

Skill/Content and Objective: Students should be able to recognize the next number in a sequence from 1-100.
Materials: Cross the Decade gameboards and cards
Description: Play with a partner.
1. Place all the cards that end with nine face down on the blue board and all the cards that end with zero face down on the red board.
2. Player 1 turns over a card from the blue board, reads the number name and says the counting number that follows. Ex: I have ______. I need ______.
3. Player 1 then picks up a card from the red board. If the numbers are in counting order the player keeps both cards. If the numbers are not in counting order the player must return both cards to the boards.
4. Player 2 now turns over a card on each board.
5. Keep taking turns until all pairs of cards have been found.
Differentiation: This game can be played with any numbers 1-10, 11-20...
Assessment:
Formative: Look for students counting in sequence and identifying which number comes next.
Summative: Cover up 5 numbers on 100's chart and ask each student which number is missing.
