Skill/Content and Objective: Count a group of objects and tell how many in the set
Materials - Several small boxes filled with various objects such as erasers, paper clips, buttons... and the Mystery Box recording sheet.
Description- Students pick a box, count the objects inside, and record on the Mystery Box recording sheet how many were inside. Students can work with a partner to count the objects or alone.
Differentiation - More objects can be added to the box once the student becomes familiar with larger numbers and grouped into 2s, 5s, and 10s.
Assessment:
Formative- Students should be counting in the correct sequence and pointing to each object as they count. They should recognize that the last number counted is the amount of objects in the set or group.
Summative- Check the recording sheet for accuracy.
